I've had a strange feeling lately. The one where the sound of a song puts a knot in the back of your throat, that you can't explain. Like something you heard hit a chord.

I used to come here for comfort. In the past my life felt like a series of books I shut 1/2 way through because the characters were too boring or the plot didn't sit right. You know it won't end well.

It's no surprise that pencils with intact erasers were a commodity when I was young. Turns out there aren't enough erasers around to fix the world's problems. If only we were better artists, writers, mathematicians... Is it wrong to hope your laundry will come out brighter in the wash this time?

I was one of Colin's students during his graduate studies at BYU. Consistently when I view his artwork (during various stages of completion) I have been overwhelmed with a sense of reverence for life, and a deeper desire to understand my place in this infinite scheme. It makes me feel there is much to profit from a vast human heritage. The delicate attention he imparts to each lithograph, and the hours of deliberation over subject and content has reminds me that many good, and beautiful things, sometimes have to be painstakingly sought after before they are obtained.

"The impetus for my body of work is my longing – brought on by near paralyzing fears of loss and death in my youth – to connect with something beyond my own mortality. Inspired by my own synchronistic encounters with people, stories, or objects from the past, both ancestrally related and wholly unconnected to me, my work serves as a reminder of inevitable death, yet also as a cautiously optimistic tribute to bygone entities that are allowed to, in a phenomenological sense, live on through the artwork..."

I have a range of feelings about this building. Initially I think it is childish and playful, like some kind of 3d puzzle, that has been completed and displayed on a shelf. But I also feel attached to it, as a living creature, and I am saddened to see it beached and immovable, like a mechanical whale that became distracted from its course, and came to its final resting place in a rusted heap.

A frilled lizard has an excellent collar which I borrowed for this image. It can spread it out for scaring or keep flat for inconspicuous look. "Xerox Astronomy and the Nebulous Object-Image Archive is an installation in two parts: 1) a central kinetic sculpture and 2) the presentation of the image archive the sculpture produces. The first part places an office photocopier at the center of a mechanical model of the universe. In this model, a group of desklamp-esque arms orbit robotically, maneuvering light sources above the bed of the copier, the system's observation and recording device. By continually documenting, through photocopies, the paths of the orbiting objects, the copier produces images suggestive both of various forms of scientific vision (astrophotography, sonography, etc) and paranormal/hoax photography. The sculpture at once models the movements of distant bodies and presents itself as the the primary object of observation, creating a self-reflexive, self-imaging media production system. Its form refers to pre-industrial astronomic models, and the incorporation of office aesthetics is intended to evoke the "informational everyman-ism" typified by amateur astronomy, paranormal enthusiasts, and internet DIY culture. "

Though the neoclassical-slapped-on facade of the Lloyds Building in London is Howard Roark's (Ayn Rand's) worst nightmare, the water pipes and electrical power conduits on the outside of the building do so much more than dazzle tourists with a mediocre knowledge of architecture (someday I hope to be that tourist!) It also opens up a lot of useful space in the interior of the building. Leave it to an industrial designer to make such a functional beauty.

maybe it's just me, but I think the interior is reminiscent of the Bradbury building in L.A. (the first image shows the interior escalators of the Lloyds of London Building, and the second is the staircase of the Bradbury Building as seen in the movie "Blade Runner")
